Today’s leaders must be able to provide constructive feedback while also praising others performance improvements. Without the proper skills, this can be challenging.

The Dale Carnegie principles are designed to influence people without arousing resentment. Principle #22 says, ‘Begin with praise and honest appreciation.’

When leaders are encouraging and supportive of others, especially under difficult circumstances, they have the unique opportunity to influence that person’s attitude. It was poet, Ella Wheeler Wilcox who said, “A pat on the back is only a few vertebrae from a kick in the pants, but is miles ahead in results.” You may be surprised by the results.
