Past, Present, and Future

September 30, 2011

There are a lot of people that are ready to make a change in their lives.  They feel they are stuck in a rut, doing the same things each day, and getting the same results.  If you are one of them, then it is time to take a look at a few things that are either pulling you backwards, or preventing you from moving forward.  Granted, life in Alabama isn’t easy right now, but there are some changes you can make in your life that will make it better.

First, examine your past.  “I think we all wish we could erase some dark times in our lives.  But all of life’s experiences, bad and good, make you who you are.  Erasing any of life’s experiences would be a mistake.” – Luis Miguel.  There most likely are events in your past life that you regret.  That’s okay.  Relive them for a minute or two.  What could you have done differently in that given situation?  In knowing the mistakes you made, you learn not to repeat them.  That is why your past is of such importance.  Without those learning experiences, you would repeat the same mistakes over and over, without moving on to the present.

Next, look at where you are now.  Have you moved forward in your life?  If you’re in that rut mentioned earlier, you aren’t moving too fast.  What are your dreams?  Do you have goals to meet to get you there?  A lot of people make a list, and then never look at it again.  You have to be sure you keep your goals in front of you in order to remind yourself to strive for your dreams.  Each day, you should be reminding yourself of the steps you need to take in order to achieve them.

Now look to your future.  Can you see where you will be in five years?  If you aren’t able to visualize that short span of time, then your goals are not bringing you to that point.  You have to have the positive attitude and self-determination to meet all of your goals to get to a point in your life where you can see that your dreams are obtainable.  However, if you are looking too far in the future and setting unrealistic goals for yourself, you are self-sabotaging your chances of success.  In taking a close look at all aspects of your life, you are better able to stay focused on obtaining your dreams.
