Space and Missile Defense Conference comes to Huntsville

August 12, 2011

Huntsville, if you’re looking for an intellectually stimulating event featuring keynote speakers, exhibitor booths and technology panels, look no further than the 14th annual Space and Missile Defense Conference, set for August 15-18 at the Von Braun Center.

Like they are today, tomorrow’s operational environments will be complex and demanding. Senior defense and industry leaders will be bringing you the latest information relating to warfighters’ needs, acquisition plans and future space and missile defense operations. Several of the invited speakers will address a range of relevant technical topics that include cyber, directed energy and space operations.

Some of the planned presentations include “The Importance of SMD to Providing Capabilities to the Warfighter in the 21st Century,” “The Role of Space & Missile Defense in Providing Capabilities to the Warfighter: In the Army Today & Tomorrow,” and “NATO Perspective on Missile Defense.”

The conference kicks off on Monday, August 15, with an all-day golf tournament at Hampton Cove Golf Course, 450 Old Highway 431, Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.

Authors will be signing their books in the Book Signing Booth located between South and East Halls. Confirmed participants featured this year include local favorites: Austin Boyd (The Evidence, The Proof, The Return, and a recent book titled Nobody’s Child), Ed Buckbee (50 Years of Rockets and Spacecraft, Real Space Cowboys, and Voices From the Moon), Steve Newman (The Night Eagles Soared), and Pat Duggins, News Director, Alabama Public Radio (Trailblazing Mars and Final Countdown).

You can also meet Leo Thorsness, USAF Medal of Honor Recipient (Surviving Hell: A POW’S Journey), Allan McDonald and Jim Hansen, (Truth, Lies and O-Rings: Inside the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster), Leland McCaslin (Secrets of the Cold War), and Jack Owens, former FBI Agent (Don’t Shoot We’re Republicans). Copies of all books will be available for purchase at the Barnes and Noble sales booth adjacent to the signing station, and a schedule of signings can be found on the website.
