Monster.com founder makes a stop in Birmingham

Jeff Taylor was the keynote speaker at the Birmingham Venture Club’s annual meeting today at the Sheraton Birmingham ballroom. He sat down with The Birmingham News before the event, and I thought he definitely had a lot of good things to say.

Some highlights:

Today’s young entrepreneurs have many more opportunities than he did when he created Monster.com back in 1993 (He sold it two years later.) Side note: Monster.com boasts 30 million visitors worldwide monthly.

Wannabe business owners must embrace technology to make their dreams a reality.

They should also change the way they think about themselves and not be afraid to try new things.

Through his media company, Eons.com, Taylor manages 26 websites and advises businesses on using social media to improve their bottom line.

Economic downturns should be seen as opportunities for entrepreneurs who have vision, according to Taylor.

Check out the rest of The Birmingham News’ interview with Taylor here.

We’re curious: Did anyone attend the event? Were there any other highlights to his talk? Leave them here in the comments.
