It’s probable that either you or someone you know is currently on the hunt for a job. And it’s no secret that these days jobs can be hard to come by. Or even impossible.
So it’s definitely hard to imagine a company aggressively hiring during the recession. But it’s happening in your backyard, Alabama. Liberty National Life Insurance Co. is looking to hire 1,200 agents and managers in Alabama and will be holding a job fair on Nov. 5 to meet applicants, according to The Birmingham News. Birmingham branch manager Eddie Milner expects the company will meet with more than 2,000 candidates.
According to The News:
The company has held occasional job fairs throughout the recession, including smaller simultaneous events at its offices around Alabama, and is adding thousands of new sales and management positions nationwide. There are fewer insurance agents nationally today than there were 30 years ago when he entered the business, Milner said. Before a job fair earlier this year, Milner said demand for some lines of insurance increases during a poor economy.
“We find that in hard economic times people are more interested in protecting their families and assets than ever,” he said.
Advanced registration for the job fair is required by calling 205-943-0393. The event will be held at noon Nov. 5 at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel downtown. Average first-year salary for a Liberty National agent is $56,000, Milner said.
